The
tooth is made up of subparts too:
-
The enamel, which
is the outermost part.
-
The dentine, which
is under the enamel of the tooth.
-
The pulp, which
is where all the nerve endings and blood vessels are collected.
-
At the bottom
of the tooth is the root, the dentine which extends down to the root
is covered by cementum. The cementum is what holds each tooth’s root
to your jawbone.
The thing about teeth
is that although each tooth comprises of similar subparts there are different
types of teeth.
Bang, in the center
of the 32 teeth, four on top and four in the bottom
row are the incisors. They are sharp ended and shaped kind of like
chisels. When you bite into something you usually use the incisors.
Next to each incisor
(which makes it totally four) is the canine, which is pointed, the
canines help in tearing your food.
Besides the canine
are the premolars. There are eight premolars in all, four on top
and four on the bottom. Premolars are bigger than the canines and incisors
and also have ridges, which help in crushing and grinding food.
Anything with a pre
means there must be something more without a “pre”. That’s exactly how
it is here as well. The molars
are the next type. They are four
on top and four on the bottom. The molars have more ridges and are even
wider and stronger than premolars. Molars help in finally crushing the
food and getting it ready to swallow.
That totals to 28
teeth. The remaining four are also molars, which are the final four that
grow around the age of 20. It hurts quite a bit for some people when it
grows and sure enough that all that pain makes you a wiser person. Probably
also the reason why they are called the wisdom
teeth.
