It is the largest of all body organs, and one which you are most aware. Water proof and self repairing, this body covering is a reflector of health and well being. It controls body temperature and eliminates some waste through the sweat glands. The nerves in the skin endow the body with its sense of touch, pressures and pain. In sunlight the skin makes vitamin D essential for healthy bones.

Skin growth

Right under your skin there are new skin cells getting formed. When the cells are fully grown they move upwards in about 3 or 4 weeks time to the top layer of your skin. But at the same time the older cells, which are towards the top start dying and these dead cells rise to the surface of your skin. This means the skin all over your body is made up of dead cells. The process continues this way with all the dead cells on the surface falling.

How it helps?

It helps in keeping the body temperature . The skin cells produce a substance called melanin, which gives the skin its color. This is in fact why some people are darker than others. The more the melanin in your body the darker you are. It helps in absorbing shock.   It helps by allowing you to keep track of what you touch and feel and warns you to stay away from something too hot or too cold, etc…

Why should you be nice to your skin?

It's easy to take skin for granted. Unless there's a problem, you may not think about your skin very much. But skin has a very important job to do. Your skin is constantly protecting you. By keeping infections out of your body, your skin keeps you from getting sick. You need to do your part, too, by taking care of it. Then you'll be helping your skin to protect you, and you'll help prevent future problems, like wrinkles and even skin cancer.

Acne

If you're a teenager or almost a teenager, chances are pretty good that you have some acne. Almost eight in ten teenagers have acne, along with lots of adults. It's considered a normal part of puberty. But knowing that doesn't always make it easier when you're looking at a big pimple on your face in the mirror.

Acne is a condition of the skin that shows up as different types of bumps. These can be blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and cysts. The type of acne that a lot of teenagers get is called "acne vulgaris." It usually shows up on the face, neck, shoulders, upper back, and chest.

The hair follicles, or pores, in your skin contain sebaceous glands (also called oil glands). These glands make sebum , which is an oil that lubricates your hair and skin. Most of the time the glands make the right amount of sebum, and the pores are fine. But sometimes a pore gets clogged up with too much sebum and dead skin cells.

You can help to keep your facial muscles firm and help prevent drooping of your features by devoting just 6 mins a day to theses exercises. It is important to keep the rest of the face relaxed while working on any specific area .

Hey, don't forget your skin, take care...

Always wear sunscreen when you are go out in the sun.   Have a good wash regularly using a lot of water and gentle mild soaps   When you get hurt, take care to bandage it properly and apply the right creams and ointments to help it heal faster.
