There are
different parts to the eye; The first of these is the eyelid. This
is the part, which you use to open and shut to protect the inside of your
eyes. Every time the eyelid opens and closes it keeps the dirt out of
the eye, which it does with the help of the eye-lashes . You might realize
that this is what blinking is all about, which incidentally happens involuntarily
i.e., without your knowledge.
-
There is the
white part called Sclera, which has tiny blood vessels coming in to
bring blood to the eye.
-
The Cornea,
which is a thin layer on the eye, helps you focus.
-
The Iris,
which is black or brown.
-
The Pupil,
which is the small black center part on the iris. This helps in deciding
how much light can come into the eye.
-
The Anterior
chamber, contains a special fluid, which provides the eye with oxygen
and nutrients.
-
The lens is
right behind the eye. This focuses the light that comes in to the eye onto
the retina.
-
The retina
is placed behind the eyeball. It is filled with millions of cells and receives
blood through the retinal vessels.
-
Next come
the ciliary muscles. These are connected to the fibers that hold the lens and
thus can change the shape of the lens. So the lens actually becomes thinner
when you are looking at far away things and thicker when you are trying
to focus on things closer to yourself.
-
Then comes
the vitreous. This is behind the lens and is filled with a fluid called
the vitreous humor.
-
Finally before
it starts crying because we’ve ignored it, the lacrimal
glands. This is
present at the outer corner of each eye. This is the gland that produces
tears
